ABOUT T. DENNY SANFORD
T. Denny Sanford, chairman of First Premier Bank, Premier Bankcard, and United National Corporation, appears on lists of the world's most successful people.
He is among the world's most generous philanthropists, and the University of Minnesota and its athletics programs are among those benefting from his support.
In 2009, a gift from the T. Denny Sanford family took fund-raising for Minnesota's new stadium over its goal. Said Director of Athletics Joel Maturi in announcing the gift, "(T. Denny) and I have long shared a vision to bring Gopher football back to campus and I am thrilled that he is going to be part of this outstanding facility." Sanford, in fact, initiated football's return to campus.
Said Sanford, "I take great pride topping off the fundraising for a University that has helped me so much."
"The U of M and Gopher Athletics have been close to my heart since I attended my first Gopher football game with my dad at the age of eight," said Sanford. He began working at the same age in his father's clothing distribution company.
In 1958, the St. Paul native and Central High School graduate earned a degree in psychology at the University of Minnesota, and he began a career in sales and marketing, later moving into investments, lending and banking. Both of Sanford's sons also attended the University.
In recognition of his gift, the largest personal gift to the stadium, this Hall of Fame is named the T. Denny Sanford Athletics Hall of Fame.
