Andrew Kappers

Andrew Kappers serves as the Senior Associate Director in the University of Minnesota's Office of Athletic Compliance. With over a decade of experience in NCAA compliance, Kappers brings a deep understanding of compliance oversight, policy development, and student-athlete support.
Before joining the Golden Gophers, Kappers spent over seven years at Rutgers University, most recently serving as Senior Associate Athletic Director. In this role, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the compliance office, ensuring adherence to NCAA, Big Ten, and institutional regulations. He also served as the primary sport administrator for womenās basketball and secondary sport administrator for menās golf (2019ā21). Throughout his tenure, he provided compliance oversight for key programs, including football, wrestling, baseball, womenās golf, menās soccer, rowing, and womenās lacrosse.
Kappersā professional journey also includes time at the University of South Florida as Assistant Director of Compliance, where he managed recruiting operations, monitored playing and practice seasons, and conducted rules education initiatives for 19 sports. Earlier in his career, he contributed to the American Athletic Conference, leading its NLI Program and supporting the membership's compliance efforts.
Kappers earned his law degree from the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where he also spent two seasons as an assistant hockey coach with his alma mater (University of St. Thomas). Before pursuing law, he graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Business Marketing while excelling as a four-year letterwinner and senior captain for the ice hockey team. Twice named All-Conference and team MVP, he also represented his team as a SAAC member.
Kappers comes to Minnesota with his Wife, Erin Kappers and soon to be baby #1 coming in February 2025.
