Arizona State captured its third Roy Griak Invitational Women's Gold Race title, compiling 103 points and landing three runners in the top 20. Michigan State, the 2002 Griak champion, placed second with 122 points.

Providence junior Kim Smith ran to the individual title, posting a time of 20 minutes, 17 seconds over the 6-kilometer course. Wartburg junior Missy Buttry, the 2002 NCAA Division III national champion, placed second in 20:27.

The Sun Devils ran a young squad that included five sophomores and a freshman. Two of those sophomores, Amy Hastings and Anna Masinelli posted top-10 finishes with Hastings finishing third in a time of 20:45, and Masinelli seventh in 20:58.

Redshirt freshman Emily Brown led the Minnesota effort with a 81st-place finish in 22:19. The Golden Gophers placed 19th as a team with 514 points.

"I was hoping we would finish higher as a team but this year's field of teams was very deep and talented," said Golden Gopher head coach Gary Wilson. "A good example of this improved field was that the champion ran a time nearly 30 seconds faster than a year ago."
