Minnesota Women Host Oz Memorial Run - The Minnesota women’s cross country hosts the Oz Memorial Run on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. at the Les Bolstad Golf Course. The 6-kilometer race features teams from Minnesota, Drake, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Minnesota State Mankato.
Golden Gopher Men Head to Beautiful San Diego - The Minnesota men’s cross country team heads to the West Coast to compete in the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State, on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11:30 a.m. CT.
Gophers Seek to Continue Perfection - The Minnesota women have won the last three Oz Memorial Run team titles with a perfect score of 15 points. Jamie Cheever is the defending medalist.
Three Gopher Men Debut in Maroon and Gold - The Gopher men will debut the talents of redshirt freshmen Paul Hilsen and Sean Olson and sophomore transfer Ben Blankenship, who don the Maroon and Gold for the first time this weekend.
Gopher Women Host Oz Memorial Run
The Minnesota women’s cross country team kicks off their 2008 season by playing host to the Oz Memorial Run on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10:30 a.m. The 6-kilometer race is contested on the course at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. Following the women’s competition, a men’s 6-kilometer race will be run.
Remembering Oz
The Oz Memorial Run is named in memory of former Drake coach Gary Osborn, who passed away May 21, 2000. Osborn was a longtime friend of Minnesota coach Gary Wilson.
The Oz Memorial Field
Minnesota and Drake annually square off in the Oz Memorial Run. This year, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Minnesota State Mankato join the field.
Looking For a Repeat of Perfection
The Gophers have captured the last three Oz Memorial Run team titles with perfect scores of 15 points. Jamie Cheever is the defending individual champion, winning medalist honors with a time of 21:51.3 a year ago.
Duwell Wins Intrasquad Race
Junior Megan Duwell won the intrasquad race with a time of 18:03, but her Maroon team was defeated by the Gold team by a 24-32 count.
Golden Gopher Coaching Staff
Gary Wilson, the dean of the Big Ten women’s cross country coaches, is in his 24th season heading the Minnesota program. He is assisted by volunteer assistant head coach, Sarah Hesser, who is in her fourth season on the coaching staff after competing for the Golden Gophers. Kallie Suske is also a volunteer assistant.
