USTFCCCA National Poll  |  USTFCCCA Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – The University of Minnesota women's cross country team has been voted preseason No. 19 according to the National Coaches Poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Tuesday.

The Gophers are the highest ranked team from the Midwest region and the fourth Big Ten Conference team, behind No. 11 Penn State, No. 13 Michigan State, and No. 17 Michigan. Minnesota was projected to win the NCAA Midwest Regional, earning the No. 1 ranking in the USTFCCCA preseason regional rankings.

The women’s preseason No. 1 has gone on to claim the team title in each of the past three years. Providence earned the top spot in this year's poll after ending the 2012 season with an NCAA runner-up finish.

The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Minnesota opens the 2013 season with its annual Intrasquad Meet this Friday before kicking off the regular season with the Oz Memorial at Les Bolstad Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 6.
