USTFCCCA Team Awards | USTFCCCA Individual Awards

NEW ORLEANS – Seniors Laura Docherty and Maggie Bollig, junior Molly Kayfes and sophomore Becca Dyson have been named to the 2013 All-Academic team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). With a team grade point average of 3.50, Minnesota also earned All-Academic Team honors.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better and start at least five runners at its regional championship meet. Eleven Big Ten Conference teams were honored as All-Academic Teams, including four teams with at least a 3.50 team GPA (Indiana, 3.63; Purdue, 3.55; Ohio State, 3.52; and Minnesota, 3.50).

Individual honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished as an All-American or among the 15 finishers (or 10 percent) in their regional meet.

Docherty is studying Marketing, Retail Merchandising, Sustainability. She led the Gophers at the 2013 NCAA Championships with a 61st place finish for the first top-100 NCAA finish of her career. Docherty also earned Midwest All-Region and All-Big Ten First Team honors. She was the Gophers' top runner at four meets.

Bollig is a double-major in Human Resource Development and Psychology. She was the team's second finisher at the NCAA championships. Bollig was consistently in the Gophers' top three, including running a career-best 20:35.4 to finish second on the team (eighth overall) at the nCAA Midwest Regional. She earned Midwest All-Region and All-Big Ten Second Team honors as well.


 

 

Kayfes is studying Business and Marketing Education. In her junior season, Kayfes was Minnesota's top runner at three meets, including finishing as runner-up at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Kayfes was named to the Midwest All-Region Team and the All-Big Ten Second Team.

Dyson is studying Journalism with an emphasis on Professional Strategic Communications. As a redshirt sophomore, Dyson earned a place on the Gophers' postseason roster. She ran a personal best 20:57 as the Gophers' sixth runner at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational and was named to the Midwest All-Region Team.

All four Golden Gopher honorees were also named to the 2013 Academic All-Big Ten team.

This season, 129 NCAA Division I women's cross country runners earned USTFCCCA Academic All-American honors. They hail from 78 different institutions and 21 different conferences. National champion Providence and Colorado were the best represented programs with five individuals apiece, followed by eight different schools with four honorees each. Along with Minnesota, Butler, Virginia, Georgetown, Arkansas, Penn State, Florida State and Dartmouth had four honorees.
