FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Eleven-straight Gophers were the first to cross the finish line of the Oz Memorial on Friday afternoon paving the way for the Minnesota women's cross country team to finish with a perfect team score of 15.
Junior Laura Docherty took top individual honors for the Gophers with a time of 21:31.44 in the 6K course at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. One of four Gophers to finish under 22 minutes, Docherty was followed into the chute by sophomore Molly Kayfes (second overall, 21:43.75), junior Ashlie Decker (third, 21:48.65) and junior Katie Moraczewski(fourth, 21:52.44.
The Gophers closed out the perfect team score with a fifth-place finish by junior Rachel Drake (22:06.81) followed closely by freshman newcomer Jamie Piepenburg in sixth at 22:08.81 and redshirt freshman Liz Berkholtzin seventh with a time of 22:15.34.
Junior Maggie Bollig, junior Kelli Budd redshirt freshman Becca Dyson and junior Missa Varpnesswould close out the Gophers' streak with finishes of eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th - all under the 23 minute mark.
The Gophers return to action next Friday with the SDSU Classic in Brookings, S.D.
