VB: No. 5 Volleyball Finishes Tied for Second Place in Big Ten

havThe fifth-ranked Minnesota volleyball team (28-4, 17-3) finished tied for second place in the Big Ten for a second straight season. It marks the fifth time in six seasons that the Golden Gophers have finished second or higher in the Big Ten.

Minnesota came into the weekend needing a win over Illinois, and Penn State to lose one of its two contests at Michigan or Michigan State to claim a share of the Big Ten title. The Golden Gophers won over Illinois, but the Nittany Lions won both of their matches in three games, including a win over Michigan State tonight, to win their second straight Big Ten title at 18-2. The Golden Gophers finished tied for second place at 17-3 with Ohio State.

Penn State (No. 4), Minnesota (No. 5) and Ohio State (No. 8) all entered the week in the top 10 in the nation.

Minnesota will find out its matchups in the NCAA Tournament when the pairings are announced on ESPNews between 5:45 pm and 6:15 pm on Sunday, Nov. 28. The Golden Gophers volleyball team will also have their match against Illinois telecast on a tape-delayed basis on Fox Sports Net North on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 3 pm.
