Sophomore setter Kelly Bowman (Maple Grove, Minn.) was named Big Ten Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for Monday, Oct. 25. It marked the first time in her career that Bowman has received conference player of the week honors.
It is the first time in school history that Minnesota has had four players on the same roster that have claimed Big Ten Player of the Week honors at some point in their careers.
Bowman joins Lindsey Taatjes (Prinsburg, Minn.), Paula Gentil (Forteleaza Ceara', Brazil) and Erin Martin (Ames, Iowa) as one of four players on the current roster to claim conference player of the week honors. Taatjes has claimed the honors three times, Gentil has done it twice and Bowman and Martin have each done it once. Bowman also becomes the first Minnesota sophomore to claim the honors since Taatjes did so on Oct. 21, 2002.
In a pair of three-game victories over Indiana and Purdue, Bowman averaged 3.00 kpg, 3.00 dpg, 9.00 apg and hit .556. The sophomore setter narrowly missed two triple-doubles this weekend as she recorded eight kills, 28 assists and 10 digs at Indiana, along with 10 kills, 26 assists and eight digs against Purdue. She also hit .615 against the Boilermakers.
This season, Bowman has already recorded five triple-doubles.
