TheNicole Branagh had 28 kills to lead No. 22 Minnesota to its 10th straight victory, a four-game win over Indiana by scores of 15-2, 9-15, 15-9, 15-9. The Gophers remain tied for first in the Big Ten with top-ranked Penn State at 7-0 record and is 16-3 overall.
The Gophers held an advantage of .264-.138 in hitting percentage and outblocked the Hoosiers 14-7. Yvonne Wichert contributed a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Stephanie Hagen added 11 kills. Cydryce Carter led Indiana with 15 kills.
"Indiana served us very tough in the second game, which threw off our passing," said Minnesota coach Mike Hebert. "However, I was very happy with the way we came bace in the third and fourth games. This match was much more typical of a Big Ten match, and we responded well."
Minnesota setter Lindsey Berg served three aces to give her 101 for her career, and had 53 assists to push her career total to 2,119 and into fourth place on the Gophers' all time list.
Minnesota dominated the first game, scoring the first nine points of the match en route to a 15-2 win. Minnesota doubled up Indiana in kills, 20-10, and hit .469 in the opening stanza. Hagen had seven kills in eight attempts in the first game.
Indiana scored the last five points of the second game to earn a 15-9 victory and even the match. The Gophers were limited to a .122 hitting percentage, and Indiana served three aces to control the game with its serve.
The Gophers won the last two games behind the arm of Branagh and tough defense. Branagh had 18 of her 28 kills in the final two games and hit .484 to end the match. The Gophers had seven blocks in the final two games of the match.
Minnesota will host No. 23 Illinois in a key Big Ten match Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion.
