Minnesota will head to Iowa for a midweek match on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 pm. The Golden Gophers will then host Illinois as Williams Arena on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 pm. Minnesota will try to break its attendance record of 6,046, which was set on Sept. 28, 1990 at Williams Arena. The Minnesota- Illinois match will also be broadcast on tape-delay on Fox Sports Net North on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 pm. The Golden Gophers enter the week ranked No. 2 with a 16-2 overall record and a 5-1 Big Ten record. Minnesota is currently tied for second with Penn State in the Big Ten. Iowa is 9-9 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten this season. Illinois enters the week ranked No. 23, and is 12-3 overall with a 4-2 Big Ten record. Illinois is currently tied with Michigan for fourth place in the Big Ten.

Minnesota is tied for first in matches won against ranked opposition. The Golden Gophers are tied with Nebraska and USC for most victories against ranked opponents with five. Minnesota is 5-2, having played seven ranked teams this season. The Golden Gophers are tied for third with UCLA and Arizona for the third most matches against ranked opponents in the nation. California leads with nine, while USC has played eight matches against ranked opponents. Minnesota has victories against No. 11 Colorado State, No. 15 Kansas State, No. 4 Florida, No. 20 Loyola Marymount and No. 4 Penn State. The Golden Gophers have lost to No. 1 USC and No. 16 Ohio State.
