Junior libero Paula Gentil (Forteleaza Ceara', Brazil) has been named the CSTV (College Sports Television) Student-Athlete of the Week. Gentil is now in contention to win CSTV Student-Athlete of the Month, which is selected through votes cast by visitors to CSTV's CollegeSports.com web site.
To this point, two student-athletes have been selected (including Gentil) have been named CSTV Student-Athlete of the Week. Following the selection of the other two student-athletes of the week, there will be an online vote at CollegeSports.com to decide the Student-Athlete of the Month.
This season, Gentil has recorded 437 digs in 18 matches. She was second in the nation in digs per game heading into last weekend's action. Gentil is currently averaging 6.52 dpg. She also leads Minnesota in service aces with 26 (0.39 sapg).
Heading into the week, Gentil has 1,667 digs in her career. That is already good for a Minnesota school record, and is just 264 digs from tying the Big Ten record. Gentil is also averaging 7.43 dpg in Big Ten play this season.
Last year she broke the Big Ten single-season record with 656 digs. This season she already has 437 digs in 18 matches this season.
