I Junior outside hitter Erin Martin (Ames, Iowa) was named Big Ten Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for Monday, Oct. 6. It marked the first time Minnesota has had a player of the week this season, after capturing the honors on four separate occasions in 2002.
Martin joins Cassie Busse (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Lindsey Taatjes (Prinsburg, Minn.) as players on the current roster who have received Big Ten Player of the Week honors. Busse and Taajtes each received the honors twice last season. Martin received the honors for the first time in her career this week .
This past week, Martin averaged 5.29 kpg, 2.29 dpg and hit a team-high .369 in a pair of home victories against Northwestern and Illinois. Martin tallied 15 kills and 10 digs against Northwestern in a three-game victory to record her second career double-double. In a four-game victory over Illinois, Martin paced Minnesota with 22 kills in the match, along with hitting .373.
Minnesota will play a midweek match at Iowa on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. The Golden Gophers will then travel to No. 21 Wisconsin to take on the Badgers on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
