WSenior libero Paula Gentil (Forteleaza Ceara’, Brazil) was named Big Ten Defensive Volleyball Player of the Week for Monday, Oct. 3. It is the first time Gentil received the honor, which was just created this year.
Gentil averaged 6.67 dpg and 0.67 apg in two victories against Michigan State and Michigan this past week. She tallied 20 digs in three-game matches against both Michigan State and Michigan this past week.
On the week, Minnesota limited its opponents to a .109 hitting percentage. The Golden Gophers limited Michigan State to a .082 hitting percentage and Michigan to .140. Minnesota has limited its opponents to a .101 hitting percentage in 15 matches this year.
Entering the week, Gentil has recorded double-figure digs in 59 of her last 60 matches.
The Golden Gophers play a midweek match against Iowa at home on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. Minnesota will also travel to Indiana to play the Hoosiers on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
