Minnesota Volleyball Moves Back Into CSTV/AVCA Poll at No. 24

After a four-week absence, the Minnesota volleyball team (10-4, 4-0) moved back into the CSTV/AVCA poll at No. 24 on Oct. 2. Minnesota received 120 points in this week’s poll.

Minnesota has now been ranked in 64 of the last 72 top 25 polls dating back to the 2002 seasons. The Golden Gophers started the season at No. 22 in the preseason poll, but dropped out over the course of the last four weeks. Minnesota is back in the poll at No. 24 for the first time since the preseason poll came out on Aug. 8.

There were five Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 this week. Penn State was the highest ranked team at No. 2, followed by No. 9 Purdue, No. 13 Wisconsin and No. 14 Ohio State.

This past week, Minnesota went 2-0 to move its record to 4-0 in Big Ten play. It marked the first time since 2002 that the Golden Gophers started Big Ten play with a 4-0 record. Minnesota defeated Michigan in three games on Sept. 29 and won in five games against Michigan State on Oct. 1.

Minnesota will hit the road this week when it faces No. 2 Penn State on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m (CT). The Golden Gophers will also face No. 13 Ohio State in Columbus on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. (CT).
