27Junior libero Paula Gentil (Forteleaza Ceara', Brazil) was named Big Ten Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for Monday, Sept. 27. It marked the second time this year that Gentil has collected the honors.

Gentil joins Lindsey Taatjes (Prinsburg, Minn.), who has claimed Big Ten Player of the Week three times, as one of two current Golden Gophers to claim the honors on multiple occasions.

In three matches last week, Gentil averaged 8.11 digs per game and 0.67 service aces per game. She became the first Big Ten player to record 39 or more digs in a match since Oct. 20, 1990, when she had 39 (13.00 dpg) against Michigan on Sept. 25. In that match, Gentil broke her own school record of 37 that she set on Aug. 28 against then No. 1 USC. The only difference was the 37 digs in that match came in five games, while her 39 against Michigan came in three games.

Gentil also tied a career-high four service aces against Cincinnati on Sept. 20. She had 15 digs against the Bearcats, and recorded 19 digs against Michigan State on Sept. 24.

This past week, Gentil moved into fourth place on the Big Ten career digs list with 1,569. She recorded 73 of those digs in three matches this past week.

The Golden Gophers will play No. 16 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. (CT). That match will be telecast on a tape-delayed basis on Fox Sports Net North on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. Minnesota will also travel to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. (CT).
