nThe Minnesota volleyball team (11-2, 1-1) was ranked No. 9 in the USA Today/CSTV weekly poll, which was released on Monday, Sept. 26. Minnesota received 1,081 points in the poll.
Minnesota has now been ranked in the top 10 in the last 22 polls dating back to the final 2003 poll. The Golden Gophers have also been ranked in the top 25 for 30 straight weeks, which is the second-longest span in school history.
There were five Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 this week. Penn State was the highest ranked team at No. 4, followed by No. 8 Wisconsin, Minnesota at No. 9, Ohio State at No. 18 and Purdue at No. 21. Illinois also received 17 votes in the poll.
Minnesota lost a five-game match on the road to Wisconsin last week, and defeated Northwestern in three games.
The Golden Gophers will have their Big Ten home opener against Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. Minnesota will then play Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. It will be the Golden Gophers first home game since Sept. 5. Minnesota has won its last six Big Ten home openers.
