The Minnesota volleyball team will begin the Big Ten season on the road when it travels to No. 10 Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. Minnesota will also play Northwestern on Saturday, Sept 24 at 7 p.m. The Golden Gophers last started Big Ten play on the road in 2003 when it lost to Purdue and Indiana in the first weekend, before bouncing back to go 15-5 in Big Ten play. Wisconsin enters the week ranked No. 10 in the nation and has 8-1 overall record. Northwestern is 9-1 overall heading into the week. The Golden Gophers are off to a 10-1 start this season, after claiming the Diet Coke Classic, the Kansas State Invitational and the TCU Tournament.
Minnesota is tied the for the best record in the Big Ten since 2002. The Golden Gophers enter this season with a 49-11 record in conference play over the last three seasons of Big Ten play. Minnesota is tied with Penn State for that mark. The two programs have claimed the last three Big Ten titles. Wisconsin is third in that span at 40-20, Ohio State is next at 35-25, followed by Illinois at 33-27, Michigan at 31-29, Michigan State at 29-31, Northwestern at 24-36, Purdue at 18-42, Indiana at 17-43 and Iowa at 5-55.
