VAfter leading No. 8 Minnesota to the Denver Tournament title this past weekend, Cassie Busse (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Lindsey Vander Well (Prinsburg, Minn.) were named to the All-Tournament Team. Busse was named the tournament's MVP marking the second time she has claimed that honor for the Golden Gophers this season.
Busse averaged 4.88 kills per game, 2.12 digs per game and 1.00 blocks per game to earn the Tournament MVP honors. She had her second-highest kill total of the year with 23 against No. 19 Santa Clara, including eight in the fourth and final game of the match. She also hit .409, had eight digs and five blocks in that match.
Vander Well averaged 13.18 assists per game, 2.82 digs per game and 0.73 blocks per game. She had 55 assists, 10 digs and four blocks in the Golden Gophers' win against No. 19 Santa Clara.
Both Busse and Vander Well have received all-tournament honors in all five of the Golden Gophers tournaments this season. Busse was the MVP of the Florida Atlantic Classic and the Denver Tournament, while Vander Well was the MVP of the Nike Invitational.
Minnesota will open Big Ten Tournament play on Friday, Sept. 27 when it hosts Michigan State at 7 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion. That match will be broadcast on Fox SportsNet on Monday, Sept. 30. The Golden Gophers will also take on Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
