thSophomore setter Lindsey Vander Well (Prinsburg, Minn.) was named Big Ten Player of the Week for Sept. 16. Vander Well is the second player in four weeks to receive the honors for Minnesota.
This past weekend Vander Well was named MVP of the Nike Invitational, in which No. 13 Minnesota won all of the matches in three games against Ball State, No. 20 North Carolina and Oregon State.
In that tournament, Vander Well averaged 13.65 assists per game, was second on the team in digs with 2.67 dpg and tallied 1.11 kills per game. She also helped lead the team to a .362 hitting percentage for the tournament, including a season-high .469 against Ball State on Sept. 14.
Vander Well has been named to the All-Tournament Team in all four of Minnesota's tournaments. She also becomes the first Golden Gopher setter to receive the honors since Lindsey Berg was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Sept. 11, 2000.
No. 8 Minnesota will travel to the Denver Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21. The field of the tournament will include No. 19 Santa Clara (8-1), Maryland (10-0) and host Denver. The Golden Gophers first match will take place on Friday, Sept. 20 when they take on host Denver at 8:30 p.m.
