GOPHERS ON TOP THE LATEST AVCA POLL
The American Volleyball Coaches Association has announced that the University of Minnesota moved from No. 2 to No. 1 in the latest AVCA poll. After a Stanford loss to Penn State and Minnesota's three wins last weekend, the Golden Gophers moved to the top spot in this week's poll. The last time the Gophers were ranked No. 1 was just last season in the 2016 weekly polls. Minnesota entered the 2016 NCAA tournament as the No. 1 ranked team and was also ranked No. 1 during the Oct. 3, 2016 poll. Prior to last year's No. 1 rankings, Minnesota was last ranked No. 1 in 2004.

Minnesota has been in the top five for 17 straight weeks dating back to the Sept. 5, 2016 poll. That is the longest current consecutive streak of appearing in the top five of any team in the nation. Texas has done it six weeks in a row dating back to last year, and Stanford four weeks in a row dating back to last year's final poll.
