The Minnesota volleyball team is ranked No. 12 in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday, Sept. 3. Minnesota received 811 points in the poll.
Minnesota has been ranked in 75 of the last 82 polls dating back to 2002. The Golden Gophers have been ranked No. 12 or higher in nine of the last 10 polls dating back to 2006.
This past week, Minnesota went 1-2 in the Diet Coke Classic. The Golden Gophers defeated then No. 12 San Diego in four games, and lost to No. 2 Stanford in four games and then No. 23 Ohio University in five games.
Minnesota was among five Big Ten teams that were ranked in this week’s poll. Penn State was No. 3, Wisconsin No. 10, Michigan No. 14 and Ohio State was No. 20. The Big Ten and Pac-10 tied for the most teams in the poll with five apiece.
The Golden Gophers will head to Berkeley, Calif. this week to play in the Golden Bear Classic. Minnesota will face Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. (CT). Minnesota will then take on Utah State on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. (CT) and then face No. 15 California at 9 p.m. (CT).
