Both Lindsey Berg and Nicole Branagh were in action in the Olympics at Beijing on Friday, Aug. 15.
Branagh and her teammate Elaine Youngs advanced to the quarterfinals of beach volleyball by defeating the Cuban team of Dalixa Fernandez and Tamara Larrea in two games in the Round of 16 by scores 21-15, 21-13. Branagh and Youngs will face the Chinese team of Xue Chen and Zhang Chi in the quarterfinal round on Sunday, Aug. 17.
Berg and the U.S. Indoor team won a dramatic five-game victory over host China by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11. With the win, the United States is now 3-1 in group play, while China is 2-2. Cuba and Japan, who are currently playing each other, are 3-0 and 2-1 respectively in the pool play. Rounding out group play, are Poland and Venezuela who are 1-3 and 0-4 respectively.
The United States will finish group play against Poland on Sunday, Aug. 17.
