The University of Minnesota volleyball program kicked off the 2011 season today, at the Sports Pavilion as the Golden Gophers held its first practice. The team reported on Monday morning, which included photo day. After getting new headshots and a team photo taken, a lunch was served followed by various meetings with staff members. After a dinner, the Gophers had a volunteer meeting as they headed into their first practice.
The first practice day (Tuesday) consisted of an early morning with a 7 a.m. physical testing with strength coach Sarah Wiley, followed by breakfast. After some individual one-on-one time, the team gathered together for the first practice at 10 a.m. The Gophers worked on technique as coaches Laura Bush, Alfee Reft and Chris Tamas demonstrated drills and expectations to the team. As the coaches looked on an assisted, the players broke into pairs throughout the course of the morning.
Following a lunch, a second practice began at 3:30, followed by dinner and team meeting. The Gophers will continue two-a-days also on Wednesday and Thursday, while Friday will consist of meetings and some rest and relaxation.
The Gophers prepare for the start of the season as they face Southern California and Oregon on the AVCA Tournament, Sept. 26-27. Both matches will be televised live on the Big Ten Network in State College, Pa.

Gophers Ready to Host Spring Set, April 22
The University of Minnesota volleyball program will celebrate the 2016 Final Four season with a banner celebration following the home spring match, April 22, against Iowa State.
2018 NCAA Championship Headed to Minneapolis
The University of Minnesota and Sports Minneapolis will host the 2018 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship at the Target Center.
