Several Golden Gophers excelled in the Liga De Voleibol Superior Femenina professional volleyball league this year.
Minnesota had three former players in the league, as Cassie Busse was on the Llaneras de Toa Baja team, Rachel Hartmann played for Las Gigantes de Carolina and Jessy Jones was on the Caribes de San Sebastin squad.
Hartmann played with 2008 National Player of the Year Nicole Fawcett, former Indiana standout Erica Short and former Cal Poly standout Kyle Atherstone, while Busse played with former Florida All-American Aury Cruz, former Cal standout Angie Pressey and former Long Beach State standout Alexis Crimes.
The Llaneras de Toa Baja team that Busse was on started 18-0, before losing its first match to Hartmann's Las Gigantes de Carolina squad. Hartmann's team finished third in the regular-season, and then second in pool play to advance to face Busse's squad in the semifinals.
Busse's Llaneras de Toa Baja team defeated Hartmann's team 4-1 in a seven-match series in the semifinals to advance to the league's championship. In the championship, Llaneras de Toa Baja team defeated Pinkin de Corozal 4-1 in a seven-match series to win the league championship. Busse was third on the team with 79 points in the five matches, and had a team-high 25 points in the second match.
