Minnesota middle blocker Jessy Jones (Naperville, Ill.) and setter Rachel Hartmann (St. Charles, Ill.) will participate in the Powerade Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship, featuring the nation’s top women’s collegiate volleyball players, who will compete for the title in San Diego on Apr. 22 during the CSTV Collegiate Nationals.
The championships will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a quarterfinal round, semifinals and a championship round. The CSTV Collegiate Nationals is a first-of-its-kind event that crowns national champions in nine sports and will be held in Reno, Nevada on Apr. 12-15 and in San Diego on Apr. 20-22.
This year’s tournament features eight, two-person teams selected from top Universities and includes some of the nation’s outstanding individual players and elite programs. The teams will square off in a round robin tournament.
Joining Hartman and Jones, are Sarah Pavan and Jordan Larson from Nebraska, Cynthia Barboza and Bryn Kehoe from Stanford, Nicole Fawcett and Robert Holehouse from Penn State, Ashley Engle and Alyson Jennings from Texas, Angie McGinnis and Marcie Hampton from Florida, Jaimarie Sutherland and Andrea Csaszi from San Diego and Airial Salvo and Sydney Anderson from Utah.
Last year, with the tournament being run in a different format, former Golden Gopher libero Paula Gentil teamed with former USC middle blocker Bibiana Candelas to win the tournament to get a spot in an AVP Tournament.
