USA VOLLEYBALL RELEASE
Gopher Volleyball freshman Regan Pittman has been named to the United States Women's Junior National Team Under-20 Pan American Cup roster, announced today by USA Volleyball. Pittman is one of 12 individuals that will compete in the 2017 U20 Women's Pan American Cup, held May 8-13 in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The U20 Women's Pan American Cup serves as a qualification tournament into the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women's U20 World Championship that takes place July 14-23 in Boca del Rio and Cordoba, Mexico. The top team from NORCECA and the top team from the South American Confederation will earn spots into the biennial world championship.
The U.S. will compete in Group A in the U20 Women's Pan American Cup with pool play matches against Argentina on May 9 and Dominican Republic on May 10. Pool B includes Costa, Puerto Rico and Uruguay. Pool C has Chile, Cuba and Peru. The quarterfinals will take place on May 11 with the third-best pool winner and the three second-place finishers. The semifinals will be on May 12 with the quarterfinal winners advancing to meet the two teams with the best record in pool play. The medal round is scheduled for May 13.
Should the U.S. qualify for the FIVB World Championship, USA Volleyball will hold training camp July 2-12 to identify the 12-player team that will compete at the world championship. Players on the WJNT-U20PAC squad will have a guaranteed spot in the training camp alongside others identified through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryout and USA Volleyball High Performance tryouts this spring. The final roster for the world championship roster will come from the July training camp.
