round-robMinnesota's volleyball team went 1-1-2 in four matches in the UCSB Spring Tournament in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Saturday, Apr. 10.
All four of the matches were two games to 30 points in round-robin play.
Minnesota defeated Texas A&M 2-0 (30-24, 30-22), split with Arizona 1-1 (28-30, 30-28), split with host UC Santa Barbara 1-1 (15-30, 30-28) and lost 2-0 (30-26, 30-27) to Hawai'i.
"Our passing and defense were excellent," said Minnesota Head Volleyball Coach Mike Hebert. "Paula (Gentil), Lisa (Reinhart) and Marci (Peniata) played at a very high level all day."
"We were working out the wrinkles with our new offensive system. We are trying to play a faster tempo, and this is causing some frustration. We are also learning to play without Cassie (Busse). We are looking for someone to terminate the way she could."
Minnesota will play in two more tournaments this spring. The Golden Gophers will head to Lincoln, Neb. to play in Nebraska's Tournament on Apr. 17 and will return home to host a spring tournament on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 6 p.m. Admission to the home tournament is free for the public.
