Minnesota Volleyball Opens Spring Season Successfully
The Minnesota volleyball team continued the momentum it gained from a successful 2006 campaign, as it started off the 2007 spring season in strong fashion.
Minnesota went 2-0-2 in four matches that it played in the spring tournament in Williams Arena. All of the matches in the tournament were two games up to 30 points.
In the first match, the Golden Gophers split a pair of games with Washington State as it lost the first one 34-32 and won the second one 30-17.
The Golden Gophers won 2-0 against Notre Dame winning 30-17 and 30-27. Minnesota split a pair of games with Florida losing the first game 30-26 and winning the second game 30-27.
Minnesota won its last match of the tournament against Washington State 32-30 and 30-25.
“I thought we played very well in today’s tournament,” said Minnesota Head Coach Mike Hebert. “I think the coaching staff is very satisfied with our team’s performance in our first tournament of the spring. I thought that Kyla Roehrig really asserted herself as a go-to outside hitter today, and I thought Christine (Tan) played as well as any libero in the tournament.”
In the other tournament matches, Florida swept Notre Dame 30-21 and 31-29 in the first meeting, and swept the second meeting against the Fighting Irish 30-22 and 30-28.
Florida defeated Washington State 2-0 winning the first game 30-19 and the second game 30-16. Notre Dame also swept Washington State 30-26 and 30-23.
