Go Gophers!
This morning we ate breakfast at a very Puerto Rican restaurant; Wendy’s. Being that we are volleyball players, this was a large highlight of the day. The meals ranged between egg and cheese sandwiches and orange slices. After we finished our delicious breakfast we headed over to our first Puerto Rican match against the University of Puerto Rico Cayey. They are a division two team located in the town of Cayey. The gym we played at was much different than the ones we are accustomed to in the states. The floors were rubbery, which added a little extra cushion, and there were many large windows creating a new form of air conditioning. One issue we came across during the match was a hole in the ceiling that was dripping water onto the court. Kyla came to the rescue of course and swiftly wiped the floor after each point. We won the match in three games, and then were served lunch by the team.

Our next match was against a professional team called Guaynabo. We were all very excited to play a professional team, knowing they would be good competition for us. During warm ups Coach Laura and Coach Scott showed us a very unique way to warm up. We played a form basketball with volleyballs, setting everything off a bounce continuously. Free throws counted as one point and everything else as two. Scott had the high score of 19 points when our time ran out, and Rachel finished with four. Our new warm up seemed to work sense we won the match in five games. It was exciting to see all of our hard work this Spring pay off!
