University of Minnesota freshman Hannah Tapp (Stewartville, Minn.) was named as one of 12 college student-athletes to make the United States Collegiate National Team roster, announced today by USA Volleyball. Tapp will play with Team USA from June 17-27 during their tour of China. This USA Volleyball program is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team.
A 6-foot, 2-inch middle blocker, Tapp is the youngest member announced to the team with three years of eligibility remaining. As a rookie last year in the Big Ten, Tapp received Freshman All-Big Ten honors. In her first year as a Golden Gopher, Tapp was a 35-match starter, produced 122 kills and hit .404. Her blocking abilities helped Minnesota become the second-best blocking team in the Big Ten as she individually ranked fifth with 1.29 blocks per set. She capped off her rookie season hitting .750 against Radford in the NCAA First Round, .450 against Colorado in the Second Round and .429 against Stanford in the Sweet 16.
The China tour is being organized by Bring It Promotions and will travel in partnership with the Pac 12 team that will be making a return trip this summer following a successful trip in 2013. The U.S. Collegiate National Team, which will train at University of Southern California June 13-15 before leaving for China, will play six matches against Chinese collegiate and adult teams.
USA Volleyball will have two other opportunities for athletes to take part in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program representing 60 total athletes this summer. USA Volleyball will announce later this month its 12-player U.S. Collegiate National Team that will play friendly matches in Maribor, Slovenia, and compete in the Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia. The European trip will take place July 9-18.
In addition, USA Volleyball will select 36 players to participate in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program that will train and compete in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships from June 22 to July 1. The players will be placed onto three teams and compete in a round-robin event along with a Canadian Senior A2 team.
