2,771The Minnesota volleyball team (33-5) continued to receive awards for its historical season, as it was named the CVU.com Back-Row Defender Team of the Year.
Minnesota finished the year with 2,771 total digs, an NCAA record under the 30-point scoring format. The Golden Golden Gophers did so by averaging 19.94 dpg, which was a school record and the third-highest average in Big Ten history.
The Golden Gophers also had only 81 serve receive errors for the entire season, compared to 171 by their opponents.
Minnesota's libero Paula Gentil (Forteleaza Ceara', Brazil) had an NCAA single-season record 924 digs on the season. Lindsey Taatjes (Prinsburg, Minn.) tied the fourth-highest single-season dig total in school history. Sophomore setter Kelly Bowman (Maple Grove, Minn.) also had over 400 digs with 415 on the season.
Two other Minnesota's players surpassed 300 digs, as Marci Peniata (Plymouth, Minn.) and Lisa Reinhart (White Bear Lake, Minn.) finished with 339 and 317 respectively.
Overall, the Golden Gophers had five players that recorded 300 or more digs on the season.
