Creighton won the first match of the NCAA Volleyball Championship First Round. The BlueJays defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles in three straight, winning by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 28-26. The two teams battled throughout a close match but in the end, it was Creighton’s dominating blocks that made the difference. Overall, the BlueJays tallied 12.0 to Marquette’s 3.0. Leah McNary led the way with 14 kills, while Kelli Browning chipped in 12. Three Golden Eagles hit for double-digits with Holly Mertens and Danielle Carlson notching 13 kills and Erin Lehman adding 10.
Creighton will advance in the tournament to play Minnesota, who won in three over Liberty.
