The No. 5 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Indiana, tonight in Bloomington, Ind. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 24-3 overall and 13-3 in the Big Ten conference. Set scores were 25-12, 25-10, 25-15 for the win.
Alexis Hart and Stephanie Samedy hit for efficiency in the win. Hart had 11 kills in 18 attempts and hit .611, while Samedy had 17 kills in 28 attempts and hit .536. Jasmyn Martin also added eight kills in 122 attempts (.667), while Regan Pittman had six kills and hit .400. Hart provided six aces, which doubled a career best. Hart’s previous best came against Rutgers when she had three earlier this year. Samantha Seliger-Swenson had 39 assists and tied a season-best three aces. Dalianliz Rosado had 11 digs, an ace and six assists.
As a team, Minnesota hit .518, which marked a season best. The Gophers also bettered a season-best in aces with 10. The Gophers produced 50 kills, committed just six errors in 85 swings.
Minnesota is back on the road next weekend when it travels to Northwestern and Illinois, Friday and Saturday night. Both matches are at 7 p.m.
First Set: The Gophers hit .500 and produced 15 kills to win the first set, 25-12. Minnesota opened the first set with a 7-3 lead on a Martin kill. Indiana called its first timeout of the set as the Gophers held a 13-6 lead. Seliger-Swenson provided three consecutive aces to take a 17-6 lead. After a block by Samedy and an attack error by Indiana, the Gophers led, 21-8, and forced Indiana to call its second timeout. Minnesota finished off the set with a pair of kills from Samedy and one by Seliger-Swenson to take a 1-0 lead.
Second Set: The Gophers hit .739 in the second set en route to a 25-10 win. Minnesota took the first point of the set and maintained the lead as the Gophers had 17 kills in 23 attempts and did not commit an error. A Hart kill put the Gophers up, 10-6 as Indiana called a timeout. A Lohman/Seliger-Swenson block put the Gophers up, 13-8, while Lohman later put the Gophers up, 16-8 off an overpass as Indiana called its second timeout. A Samedy/Lohman block put the Gophers up by double digits at 18-8, while a Hart ace put the Gophers up, 21-9. Samedy added set point and put the Gophers up, 2-0 off her 11th kill of the night.
Third Set: A Hart serve rotation provided the Gophers with an 10-0 run as they won the third, 25-15. Tied early at 1-1, Hart went back to the line and helped the Gophers to 10 straight. In that span, Hart had two aces, while the Gophers produced seven kills as Indiana called both of their timeouts during that rotation. Pittman later pushed the score to 14-5 off a kill, while Hart put the Gophers up, 17-7 off a kill. Samedy added Minnesota’s 21st point off a kill, while Martin added a kill for a 22-13 lead. Martin added two kills to take it to match point, while an Indiana service error gave the Gophers the win.
