Minnesota History at Big Tens
The Gophers’ lone outdoor conference championship came in 2006 when the team tallied 152.50 points to beat the field in East Lansing, Mich. Since the inaugural championship meet in 1982, Golden Gophers have won 43 Big Ten event titles. Megan Duwell (10,000m), junior Todea-Kay Willis (long jump), and senior DeAnne Hahn (hammer) won most recently, in 2010. Minnesota finished seventh as a team last year, second in 2010, and third the two years before.
The 4x100 team of Todea-Kay Willis, Nyoka Giles, Chimerem Okoroji, and Kylie Peterson was featured in the Star Tribune on Thursday. GopherSports.com featured Willis earlier this week. Previous GopherSports Q&As with Laura Docherty (April 11) and on one of the team’s senior captains, Kelly Stalpes (April 19), can be read by clicking on the links.

Coach Bingle Says
“We had some injuries at the time of the Big Ten indoor meet, but we’re healthier now,” head coach Matt Bingle said. “We should finish higher outdoors than we did indoors. We’ve practiced well, and we’re ready to go this weekend.”
Last Time Out
Two weeks ago, the Gophers competed at the Drake Relays and the Steve Scott Invitational (Irvine, Calif.). Todea-Kay Willis was part of both of Minnesota’s event victories at Irvine, winning the long jump Saturday and leading off the 4x100 relay Sunday. The Gophers’ runner-up finish in the 4x1,600 was their biggest highlight of the Drake Relays. Several Gophers got a final tune-up at the Tommie Twilight last Wednesday.
