MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota women's track and field team has a full week of competition, beginning with the Hamline Twilight on Wednesday afternoon. The Gophers will then split the squad at the Drake Relays (Thursday-Saturday), Grand View Viking Classic (Friday), UC San Diego Triton Invitational (Friday-Saturday) and the Macalester Invite (Saturday) this weekend.
A handful of Gophers are slated to compete at Hamline on Wednesday, including the pole vaulters and Katie Loberg in high jump. The majority of the sprinters, throwers and multi-event specialists will compete at UC-San Diego, while most of the distance crew heads to Iowa for the Drake Relays and the Grand View Viking Classic. Some of the Gophers will remain home to compete at the Macalester Invite on Saturday as well.
About the 2014 Drake Relays
The Drake Relays Distance Carnival is slated for Thursday, when the Gophers will compete in the 5,000-meter run (Liz Berkholtz, Laura Docherty, Rachel Drake, Ashlie Decker, Haley Johnson), 10,000-meter run (Jamie Piepenburg, Melissa Cabak) and the 4x1600-meter relay. Friday afternoon, Te'Shon Adderley will race in the 800-meter dash. Minnesota will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (Katie Moraczewski, Kelli Budd, Kaila Urick, Kate Bucknam, Taylor Mikkalson) and the distance medley relay on Saturday.
About the 2014 Triton Invitational
Action gets underway at 12 p.m. CT at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational both Friday and Saturday. The women's hammer throw and discus (invitational and open) are set for Friday, and the rest of the events will be held Saturday, beginning with the men's hammer (invitational). The women's 4x100-meter is the first event on the track at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.
Last Time Out: Mid-Distance Gophers Race at Carleton Relays
Led by senior Maggie Bollig and redshirt freshman Taylor Mikkalson, the Golden Gopher 800-meter and 1,500-meter runners raced at the Carleton Relays last Saturday. Bollig led six Gophers in the 800m, finishing third in 2:16.28 in her 2014 outdoor 800m debut, and Mikkalson clocked a 4:41.82 for second place in the 1,500m run. The Gophers also raced in the 4x400-meter relay as Bollig, Andie Zeman, Stacey Swatek and Jillian Johnson finished second (4:02.67). Redshirt freshman Autumn Miller finished seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 146-8 (44.71m) as Minnesota's lone competitor in the field events.
USTFCCCA National Rankings Update
No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Oregon and No. 5 Georgia remained the top five in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Team Rankings for the week of April 22. No. 16 Penn State is the lone Big Ten Conference team ranked in the top 25. The next USTFCCCA rankings are slated to be released Tuesday, April 29.
Eight individual Gophers and one relay team land among the nation's best according to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Event Report, led by Laura Docherty ranked 14th in the 10,000-meter run (33:24.93, in 2013). Liz Berkholtz joins Docherty among the top 10,000m runners, ranked 45th (34:12.67, in 2014).
Two Gophers are also ranked in the steeplechase: Katie Moraczewski is 31st (10:14.07, in 2013) and Kelli Budd is 42nd (10:17.50, in 2014). Te'Shon Adderley ranks 53rd in the 800-meter run (2:06.38, in 2013), and Minnesota's 4x400m team of Titania Markland, Adderley, Waldvogel and Geyen is 45th (3:38.64, in 2014).
Three Gophers are ranked in field events, led by Jess Herauf at 22nd in the heptathlon with 5,444 points (2014). Nicolle Murphy is 30th in the javelin (161-9, 49.32m, in 2014). Devin Stanford ranks 40th in the hammer at 196-7 (59.92m) this season, and she is 46th in the discus with a scored mark of 170-4 (51.93m) from 2013.
All-Time Top 10 Gophers
Nine Gophers have already registered all-time top-10 program record marks this outdoor season. Erin Hawkins has posted top-10 times in both the 100-meter dash (11.78, eighth) and the 200-meter dash (24.23, ninth). Titania Markland debuted at seventh all-time with a 54.91 in the 400-meter dash. Liz Berkholtz (34:12.67) climbed from 10th to sixth all-time in the 10,000-meter run, and Kelli Budd (10:17.50) moved from seventh to fourth all-time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with their performances at the Stanford Invitational. The 4x100m relay team of Akuoma Omeoga, Megan Geyen, Jessica Waldvogel and Erin Hawkins ran a 45.29 to rank fifth all-time.
In the hammer throw, Devin Stanford moved up to third (196-7, 59.92m) and Lyndsey Thorpe cracked the top 10 with a ninth-place throw of 183-9 (56.02m). Nicolle Murphy (ninth, 161-10, 46.73m) and Jess Herauf (10th, 151-11, 46.30m) entered the top 10 in the javelin. Cami Gilson is tied for seventh all-time with a leap of 12-11.50 (3.95m) in the pole vault. Herauf also ranks second all-time with 5,444 points in the heptathlon.

The Gophers are scheduled to compete at the Hamline Meet of the Un-Saintly and the Musco Twilight at Iowa next weekend, May 2-3.
