WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD MARK SEASON HIGHS AT POMONA-PIZER INVITATIONAL

InvitatSophomore Shani Marks (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) captured top honors for the Minnesota women's track and field team at the Pomona-Pizer Invitational in Claremont, California on Friday, April 20. Marks placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 61.42 seconds. The time places Marks at number six on the school's top ten performers list.

Junior sprinters Jessica Shuster (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn) and Amber Day (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) placed sixth and and seventh, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Shuster ran a time of 55.28 seconds while Day ran a personal best time of 56.28, placing her fifth on the top ten school performer list.

Distance runner newcomer Laine Misch (Dobbinton, Ontario/Chesley District) ran a personal best time of 4:42.54 in the 1500-meter run. Misch placed eighth in the event.

Senior Aubrey Schmitt (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) took fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 48-feet and 3.25-inches. Schmitt also placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 159-5, and eighth in the hammer throw with a season high throw of 182-3.

Senior Brenda Meyer (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) threw a sixth place season high of 158-9 in the discus, while teammates Amy Netland (Bagley, Minn./Bagley) and Heidi Crabtree (New Richland, Minn./New Richland) threw season highs of 148-6 and 147-11, capturing twelvth and eleventh, respectively.

The Gophers will continue to compete this weekent at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, as well as the Long Beach State Invitational on Saturday, April 21.
