Gophers Maintain No. 14 Ranking

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's track & field team remained No. 14 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Week Three National Team Computer Rankings after being idle last weekend.

No. 1 Arkansas, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Oregon, and No. 5 Kentucky make up the nation's top five teams in the week three rankings. Two Big Ten Conference teams remain among the nation's top 25 as No. 12 Purdue maintained its position from the week two rankings along with the No. 14 Gophers.

As of the week two rankings, Minnesota is among the nation's top eight teams in six events: second in the 10,000m, third in hammer throw, fourth in the 400m hurdles, fourth in shot put, eighth in high jump, and eighth in javelin.

The Gophers rank No. 2 in the nation in the 10,000m run led by Megan Hasz's 34:19.48 for 30th in the NCAA. The Gophers average 36:19.89 as Molly Eastman (35:45.02), Emily Betz (36:54.70), and Abby Kargol (38:20.38) round out Minnesota's top four.

Led by Temi Ogunrinde's career-best throw of 64.63m (212-00), the Gophers rank No. 3 in the nation in the hammer throw with an average of 59.48m (195-01). Agnes Esser (61.31m, 201-01), Nayoka Clunis (59.71m, 195-10), and Nina Horvath (52.27m, 171-06) join Ogunrinde among the top four Gophers in the event this season.

Minnesota also comes in among the nation's top event squads in the 400m hurdles, ranked fourth with an average of 1:00.41. Rachel Schow ranks 31st in the nation at 59.14 and is joined by Emma Spagnola (1:00.01), Lindsey Smits (1:00.78), and Erin Huls (1:01.72).

Kiley Sabin (16.48m, 54-01), Nayoka Clunis (15.67m, 51-05), Shay Nielsen (14.81m, 48-07.25), and Sofie Albrechtsen (12.75m, 41-10) have the Gophers coming in at No. 4 in the nation in the shot put with an average of 14.93m (48-11.75).

The Gophers' high jump corps of Heta Tuuri (1.76m, 5-09.25), Ashley Ramacher (1.75m, 5-08.75), Taylor Wiebke (1.75m, 5-08.75), and Ayesha Champagnie (1.58m, 5-02.25) rank eighth in the nation with an average of 1.71m (5-07.25).

Minnesota ranks eighth in the javelin (45.91m, 150-07) led by Nicolle Murphy (56.17m, 184-03) and followed by Ayesha Champagnie (45.47m, 149-02), Ryan Crotty (43.08m, 141-044), and Sofie Albrechtsen (38.93m, 127-08).

Minnesota is back in action this week at the Brian Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif., and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., this Thursday through Saturday.
