MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gopher women's track and field team is slated to open the 2014 outdoor track and field season this Friday and Saturday at the 2014 TSU Relays in Houston, Texas.
Last Time Out: Herauf, Brooks Earn All-American Honors
Sophomore Jess Herauf and senior Alena Brooks both earned All-American honors while representing the Gophers at the 2014 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Brooks picked up first-team All-American honors with a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run, while Herauf earned second-team honors by placing ninth in the pentathlon.
About the 2014 TSU Relays
Competition gets underway at 9 a.m. CT Friday morning with men's and women's hammer throw. The first event on the track is the women's 5,000-meter run at 9:15 a.m. Friday.
Saturday's collegiate competition begins at 1 p.m. with men's and women's triple jump and men's high jump. The collegiate running events kick off with the 200-meter dash at 12:30 p.m. The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and the last scheduled event is the 4x400-meter relay at 7:45 p.m.
USTFCCCA National Rankings Update
No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Texas, T-No. 3 Florida, T-No. 3 Georgia and No. 5 Texas A&M topped the final USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Team Rankings for the 2014 indoor season. Two Big Ten Conference teams finished in the top 25 in No. 14 Penn State and T-No. 19 Purdue. The USTFCCCA outdoor preseason rankings are slated to be released Tuesday, March 25.
2013 Rewind: Outdoor Opener
Last season, Minnesota opened outdoor competition at the UNLV Invitational. The Golden Gophers won eight events at the small meet and posted some solid beginning marks in their first time outdoors, including strong performances by returners Devin Stanford (2nd in hammer throw), Becci Osterdyk (2nd in shot put), Katie Murgic (1st in pole vault), Nicole Murphey (1st in long jump) and Madison Smith (1st in the 400-meter hurdles). The Gophers' 4x400-meter relay team of Smith, Alena Brooks, Chidera Obasih and Frances Conlin closed out the meet with a win as well.
Up Next: Gophers Split Squad for Three Meets
The Gophers are off next weekend but return to action at three meets the following weekend. Minnesota expects to send competitors to the South Florida Collegiate (April 3-4), the Stanford Invitational (April 4-5) and the Hamline Opener (April 5).
Gophers Finish Fourth at B1G Meet
Madeline Strandemo won the mile to lead the Gophers to a fourth-place team finish at the 2017 B1G Indoor Championship.
Records Fall on B1G Day One
Emerald Egwim, Emma Spagnola, and Kimberly Golding all broke Minnesota program records on day one of the B1G Championship.
