Seniors Ready for Parents Day Open

Minnesota will host the annual Parents Day Open this Saturday at 10 a.m. CST. It will be the last home competition of the season for the Golden Gophers for both the indoor and outdoor season. The Gophers will also honor its senior class at the meet.

Heather Brunn hit a new personal best time of 2:11.23 in the 800m, along with Molly Kayfes in the 3,000m (9:36.05) at the ISU Classic. Ashlie Decker (4:49.31), Laura Docherty (4:49.31) finished in the top 10 in the mile. Two other strong times in the mile came from Katie Moraczewski  at 4:51.74 and Rachel Drake at 4:53.58. All four times were new personal best for the Gophers.

Another season best performance came from the 4x400 relay team. Megan GeyenChidera ObasihJessica Waldvogel and Sharyn Dahl clocked in at 3:43.07.

In the field events DeAnne Hahn finished second overall in the weight throw with a toss of 17.79m (58-4 ½).  Jeri Johnson-Chambers also threw a 16.27 (53-4 ½) in the same event.  Hahn also took fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.30m (46-11).

Saturday Minnesota will also honor 19 seniors. Shanna Campbell, Kayla Dahl, Sharyn Dahl, Chelsey Dunkle, Emily Fowler, Nyoka Giles, DeAnne Hahn, Linnea Johnson, Laura Koch, Mikaya Larson, Danielle LeBreck, Jenna Lewein, Taylor Light, Chimerem Okoroji, Becca Pilkerton, Andrea Rediger, Claire Rindo and Megan Smith will all be inside the UM Fieldhouse together one last time.

The Big Ten Indoor championships are just around the corner. Minnesota will head to Lincoln, NE. for the 2012 Big Ten Indoor championships. Action gets underway next Friday at 10:50 a.m. with the  pentathlon.


Matt Bingle is in his sixth season as the Golden Gophers head women’s track & field coach. He was promoted to Director of Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country during the offseason. Bingle heads an extremely experienced coaching staff that includes assistants Gary Wilson (Distance) Lynne Anderson (Throwers), Sarah Hesser (Distance) and Caroline White(Pole Vault).
