The Minnesota 4x100-meter relay team will be heading to Des Moines, Iowa, for the NCAA Championships in June. At the NCAA West Preliminary Round today, Todea-Kay Willis, Nyoka Giles, Chimerem Okoroji, and Kylie Peterson broke their own school record with a time of 44.32 seconds. They finished third in their heat, earning an automatic qualification for nationals. The 4x100 team's previous record was 44.55, set in the prelims at the Big Ten Championships.
DeAnne Hahn recorded her second-best mark of the season with a throw of 196-09 (59.97m). She was in 17th place after the preliminary heats, narrowly missing a chance at three more throws to move into the top 12.
Making her NCAA regional debut, Laura Docherty also finished 17th in her event. She ran the 5,000 meters in 16:59.51. It was still about 82 degrees in Austin at the time of the race.
The 4x400m relay team closed out tonight’s competition. Megan Geyen, Nyoka Giles, Kelly Stalpes, and Jessica Waldvogel finished with a time of 3:41.88, the third-fastest time by a Gopher 4x400 this season.
The NCAA Championships will take place Wednesday, June 6, through Saturday, June 9, at Drake University. Semifinals for the 4x100m relay will take place June 6 at 5:45 p.m., and the final will be on June 9 at 11:10 a.m. For complete Championships information, click here.
