Minnesota had a tough second day at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas. Five Golden Gophers competed, but none will move forward to the NCAA Championships at Drake.
Sharyn Dahl passed the first cut in the 400-meter hurdles yesterday, but did not advance in tonight’s semi-finals. She finished 24th with a time of 1:00.07.
Nyoka Giles ran the 200 meters and posted a time of 24.47. She will have another opportunity to compete for a Championships berth, as she will run in the 4x100-meter relay tomorrow.
The Gophers had three representatives in the 3,000-meter steeplechase tonight. In the first of three heats, Katie Moraczewski posted a time of 10:29.30 in 80-plus-degree heat. She finished 16th, missing an NCAA berth by four spots. Molly Kayfes (10:46.01) and Paige Orcutt (11:14.63) competed in the second heat.
The Gophers have one more day to advance some representatives to Des Moines. The 4x100m relay is Minnesota’s top-seeded event (11th). DeAnne Hahn (hammer), Laura Docherty (5,000m), and the 4x400m relay team will also compete Saturday.
