In a meet serving as the Golden Gophers’ final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships, Todea-Kay Willis tied her best long jump performance of the season. She won the event at the Tommie Twilight with a mark of 20-1 1/2 (6.13m), matching her performance from the Arkansas Invitational at the end of March.
Meanwhile, Tina DeLakis continued to shine in the shot put. She won tonight with her second-best throw of the season, 50-6 1/4 (15.40m). Devin Stanford won another discus title with a toss of 147-2 (44.86m). The pair has won a combined nine throwing events during outdoor meets this spring.
Minnesota won six events in all. Linnea Johnson won the 400-meter dash for the second week in a row with a time of 57.73 seconds. Sharyn Dahl won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.45. Melissa Flucke took the high jump title by clearing 5-5 3/4 (1.67m).
A few other highlights: Andrea Rediger finished second in her first 1,500m race of the season with the second-best time of any Gopher this season (4:31.18). Megan Smith (2:11.74) and Katie Hill (2:12.45) ran season-best times in the 800, finishing third and fourth, respectively.
Minnesota will next compete at the Big Ten Championships in Madison, Wis. The meet runs May 11-13.
Esser to Compete in Taiwan
Agnes Esser is set to represent her native Canada at the World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan.
