DES MOINES, Iowa – Redshirt sophomore Liz Berkholtz took sixth in the 5,000-meter run to lead the Golden Gopher women's track and field team in the Distance Carnival at the Drake Relays Thursday evening.
Berkholtz ran a career-best 16:33.72, finishing just shy of making the Gophers' all-time top-10 list. Behind Berkholtz, senior Rachel Drake finished 15th in her own career-best time of 16:51.85, and redshirt freshman Haley Johnson was 22nd in 17:13.90 in her collegiate outdoor 5,000m debut.
The Gophers continue action at the Drake Relays Friday and Saturday. Friday afternoon, senior Te'Shon Adderley will race in the 800-meter dash. On Saturday, five Gophers will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (Katie Moraczewski, Kelli Budd, Kaila Urick, Kate Bucknam, Taylor Mikkalson), and the distance medley relay team looks to defend its Drake Relays title.
Minnesota also is in action at the Grand View Viking Classic (Friday), UC San Diego Triton Invitational (Friday-Saturday) and the Macalester Invite (Saturday) this weekend.
