Madeline Strandemo earned her place in Saturday's 3,000m steeplechase NCAA final on Thursday night in Eugene, Ore.
2017 Season - Indoor: Competed in high jump at six meets • cleared an indoor career-best 1.79m (5-10.50) to place third at the Big Ten Championship and move into a tie for second among all-time Gopher high jumpers • won high jump at the Minnesota Open and Parents Day Invite • never placed lower than third.
2017 Season - Outdoor: Named USTFCCCA All-Academic and Academic All-Big Ten honoree • competed in high jump at seven meets • NCAA Championship qualifier, tying for 21st in her NCAA debut (1.73m, 5-08.00) • tied for seventh at the NCAA West Prelim to advance to the NCAA Championship, clearing 1.79m (5-10.50) on her third attempt to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championship • tied for seventh (1.70m, 5-07.00) at the Big Ten Championship • cleared a career-best 1.85m (6-00.75) to win high jump at the Longhorn Invite and break Minnesota’s outdoor program record • won high jump at three meets • qualified for the USATF Senior Championships but did not clear the opening height of 1.80m (5-10.75).
2016 Season - Indoor: Competed in high jump at five meets • placed sixth in high jump at the Big Ten Championship with a collegiate-best mark of 1.78m (5-10.00) • finished the season tied for third among all-time indoor Gopher high jumpers.
2016 Season - Outdoor: Named USTFCCCA All-Academic team honoree • competed in high jump at five meets • cleared an outdoor career-best 1.71m (5-07.25) twice, first to tie for eighth at the Virginia Challenge and again to tie for 11th at the Big Ten Championship.
High School: A 2015 graduate of Kasson-Mantorville High School where she competed for coaches Eric Myran, Pete Wyttenbach, and Travis Robertson • three-sport athlete at Kasson-Mantorville who lettered in track & field, basketball, and volleyball • all-state honoree in 2014 • four-time All-Hiawatha Valley League honoree • three-time Minnesota Class AA State Track & Field Championship qualifier in high jump, placing fifth as a freshman and second as a sophomore before winning the state title as a junior (5-9) • Hiawatha Valley League champion in high jump as a junior and senior • holds Kasson-Mantorville school records in high jump (5-11) and long jump (18-0.50) • set the MSHSL record in the high jump (5-11) at the true team state meet as a junior • named Rochester Athlete of the Year finalist and Minnesota MileSplit Athlete of the Year nominee • tied for ninth in high jump at the 2015 USATF Junior National Championships.
