wasThe University of Minnesota women's tennis program has announced the signing of Mariana Spilca to join the Golden Gophers beginning with the 2005-06 season. A native of Belen, New Mexico, Spilca was a three-time New Mexico High School State Champion. She has been ranked as a high as No. 119 nationally in the USTA Girls 18's, and is considered one of the best players in New Mexico, regardless of classification.

"I'm very excited that Mariana is going to be a part of our team next year." University of Minnesota head coach Tyler Thomson said. "Her skill, competitiveness and work ethic, coupled with her enthusiasm about being a Gopher, will be a welcomed addition to the Minnesota women's tennis program."
