Minnesota freshman Valerie Vladea defeated Simona Petrutiu in the first round of the ITA Midwest Championships main draw singles competition in Ann Arbor, Mich. Vladea won in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. She fell in the second round to Chrissie Nolan of Michigan, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles competition, sophomores Amy Thomas and Michaela Havelkova lost their first match but defeated Kristi Dunham and Selma Kurtagic of Western Illinois in the consolation round, 8-6, before defaulting in the third round.
