The University of Minnesota women's tennis team opened play at the 2006 Wildcat Invitational today in Evanston, Ill. The Golden Gophers went 7-4 in singles action and 4-5 in doubles play.

In Singles Flight 1, Tijana Koprivica advanced to the quarterfinals, while Ida Malmberg and Ashley Schellhas will play in the round of 16 tomorrow. In Singles Flight 2, Danielle Mousseau moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Anja Mihaldinec of DePaul. Karina Chiarelli and Alex Seaton gained the quarterfinals of Singles Flight 3 with convincing straight-set wins.

The doubles duo of Koprivica and Schellhas was the lone Golden Gopher team to advance out of the round of 16. The Minnesota duo downed Caitai/Mirnova of Wisconsin, 8-2, to make it to the quarterfinals.
