teThe Golden Gopher women's tennis doubles duo of Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy took second place today at the 7th Annual Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa. The sixth-seeded Minnesota team upset the No. 1 and No 3 seeds along the way, but fell to No. 2 seed Ivanov/Smekodub of Tulane, 8-6, in the championship match.
In singles action, Buergis went 2-1, losing in the quarterfinals, while Reddy posted a 2-2 mark, falling to Harvard's Preethia Mukundan, 6-4, 6-3, today in the consolation semifinals.
The Golden Gophers are next in action at the All-American Championship in Los Angeles, Calif. The significant early-season tournament kicks off Monday, Oct. 6.
