2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Pre-qualifying Draw Bracket
After kicking the season off at the Gopher Invitational last weekend, the Minnesota women's tennis team will send senior Natallia Pintusava to the 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. this weekend. Pintusava opens pre-qualifying singles play Saturday against Baylor's Jordaan Sanford.
The pre-qualifying singles draw, hosted by UCLA, features 62 players and each player must win three rounds in order to advance to the qualifying draw. A total of eight singles players will move on to qualifying from pre-qualifying play. The qualifying round is a 64-player draw that requires three wins to advance to the main draw. Eight spots in the singles main draw are reserved for qualifiers.
Singles semifinalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, N.Y.
Pintusava, an All-Big Ten Second Team selection a year ago, is coming off a sixth place finish in singles at the top flight, the "M" flight, at he Gopher Invitational after alternating wins and losses and finishing 2-2 on the weekend. She finished third in doubles after going 3-1 with junior Julia Courter.
This is the Minsk, Belarus native's first appearance at the All-American Championships and is the first appearance by a Gopher at the tournament under second-year head coach Chuck Merzbacher.
Sanford, Pintusava's first-round opponent, is a senior from Baylor and will opening her fall season Saturday when they meet. The winner of the match will move on to play the winner of the first-round match between Rana Sherif Ahmed of Fresno State and Mia King of Georgia.
After this weekend, the Gophers pick up play at Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill. from Oct. 4-6.

Minnesota made the Big Ten Tournament and will be the first match taking on Wisconsin Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Michigan State Tennis Facilities.
